Collection: Uwe Spiekermann

Uwe Spiekermann, the son of a stone sculptor, had just completed his own apprenticeship as a stone sculptor when he took over his late father's stonemasonry business at the age of just 21. Despite the heavy workload and financial responsibility this entailed, he managed to advance his artistic development. He attended numerous courses (including those in bronze casting) and finally passed his master craftsman's examination in 1992.

An important, though by no means the only, theme of his artistic work is the area of sepulchral culture. However, he does not view memorials and grave design as a "traditional art" that is simply continued in its formal and thematic rigor; rather, he has long striven to lend this traditional art form a new, contemporary language, working with artists, designers, and architects.
