Waldemar Schröder has long been a great admirer of Edgar Degas, whom he values as a painter, but especially as a sculptor. As early as 1997, he set himself the task of recreating Degas's famous wax figure from 1878 with his own hands; now he has taken up the subject again. It is not a copy in the strictest sense, but rather sculpted and designed freehand by the artist in his studio, and at the same time a deep tribute to the genius of his model, whose name also adorns the base.
This is the young student Marie Genevieve van Goethem, who also modeled for one of Degas's paintings.
Bronze edition, cast using the lost-wax casting technique, hand-chiseled and patinated. Limited to 99 numbered and signed pieces.
