Bronze sculpture "Girl with Bird" by Kurtfritz Handel

Kurtfritz Handel's "Girl with a Bird," with its slightly overly elongated arms and legs, is immediately recognizable as a typical Handel figure. The work can be read as a depiction of a particularly important phase of life: late childhood, in which mature youth and adulthood are already on the horizon, and in which one, albeit still uncertain, already has one's own ideas about the world and is trying to stand on one's own two feet.

Handel's girl has already taken on responsibility: In her left hand, she holds a young bird, which she is releasing at this very moment – it will soon fly away. And so, as is the way things will go, she will also do so in a few years.
