The original of this impressive equestrian depiction can be found in the Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice. Colleoni was a famous general and warrior, highly honored in his hometown of Bergamo even during his lifetime, and even the Pope's preferred candidate for leader of the Crusades. However, he had to decline the offer due to his advanced age.
Colleoni had an eventful life, fighting in many wars under various generals before later being appointed lieutenant general himself. He named the city of Venice as the heir to his enormous fortune on the condition that they create that very statue of him and erect it in the city.
The original sculpture was created by Andrea del Verrocchio He was one of the most influential artists of his time. For over two decades, he ran a large workshop that served as a training ground for young artists such as Sandro Botticelli and even Leonardo da Vinci.
This sculpture is a heavy bronze casting , which dates back to around turn of the century It is mounted on a bronze plinth and is from the Foundry "LC BUSCH" from Berlin cast and drawn been
